One of my favorite passages of Scripture is from the book of Acts:

“And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:10-11).

I think about the brethren from Berea, and how they received the preaching; the NASB says “With much eagerness.” I can just picture them leaning forward so as not to miss a word of what was being preached, but what made them noble in the eyes of  the writer of Acts, was their complete reliance on, and devotion to God’s Word.  They searched the Scriptures daily to make sure that what they had been told, matched up with God’s Holy Word.
